There was a faint knock at the door and, irritated, Lady Aster set down the parchment she held.
"Yes?" it was another instructor that entered, nodding in greeting and allowing the door behind him to swing wide. Folding his hands in his robe, he grinned broadly, aging blue eyes sparked with contradictory youth.
"Evening, Aster," Sir Alvar said with a faint bob of his head. "I hope I'm not interrupting?"
"No, not at all- please, come in, come in." Aster said, suppressing a wearied sigh. Although part of her was thankful to see the work she was reading banished to the drawer of her abused desk, another anxious part was disgruntled with the knowledge that finishing what she had started was looming closely on the horizon. Even still, the visit from her dear friend, the Head Dragon Guardian, was one welcomed indeed. "How was your day?"
"Most uninteresting, I'm afraid. It passed with little incident, leaving me with no good stories for tonight."
Aster nodded, feeling the shadow of a smile begin to pull at her features. Rubbing at her temple beneath her glasses, she mutely flicked her eyes to the window to her left, where a magnificent bird of crimson had just alighted. With deep silver eyes it surveyed the room, fixing on Alvar and greeting him with a melodic coo.
The Guardian bowed slightly in response. "Good evening, Aaden. I don't suppose the two of you have noted the abrupt change in temperature? Only yesterday I was remarking how lovely this fall weather was behaving, only to eat my words and search for an appropriate sweater this morning."
"Is there something you need, my friend?" Aster said, still grinning as she settled back into her chair. "Or have you come merely to exchange pleasantries."
"Oh, no- actually, Aster, there is a student standing just outside your door. And, seeing as I had noticed him both on my way to and back from the toilet, I am guessing he has been on your threshold for some time now." Still bearing his soft smile the Guardian stepped to the side, where, behind him, a young man came into view. With a jolt, Aster stood.
"Gods- I'm sorry, child. Our meeting completely slipped my mind- come in and take a seat." Her eyes flickered gratefully to Alvar, who inclined his head gracefully and swept out the door without another word.

Kindauro had been waiting outside the office door waiting for permission to enter for awhile , he wore the same clothes as he had worn at the ball (those being the best he had). Twice a gentleman pass by the second time the gentleman entered the office swinging the door open wide, inside Kindauro could see a woman who he took to be the Head Guardian Aster seated at the desk talk with the gentleman. While they talked Kindauero closed his eyes, tried to relax with several deep breathes exhaled slowly. at the Head Guardian's invitation he entered, the office seemed small to him but most indoor rooms did, this only added to the feeling of tight confinement that had settled over him in the last few hours. His nervousness showed but it was an undertone to the excitement he felt. He cradled the egg in its sling under his left arm the support strap looped around the right side of his neck he waited for the Head Guardian to look up, looked her straight in the eyes then dropped his gaze, gave a half bow at the waist to show respect. then sat in the chair on the other side of the desk opposite from her.

Aster inclined her head and too took her seat.
"Good; may as well not drag this out any longer than it needs to be. Your egg, if you would?" she asked, sliding open one of the many drawers on her right and producing a small glass vial. Noting the shrinking level of the amethyst substance within it, the Head Guardian uncapped the potion and carefully tipped the vial so that a single, shimmering droplet fell to the egg's surface.
And there was silence. Quite unchanged, the egg sat innocently in the space between them as the drop traced a shiny trail down its shell. Stopping the vial, lady Aster set it back in its place and sat back, folding her hands together to observe. It was nearly two minutes before anything of notice happened.
There was a soft noise, like the small snapping of a brittle twig, that heralded the start of the hatching. Several similar popping noises followed until, finally, a large seam gashed the egg across its side with a loud crack. The egg remained composed for a second or two more; then, there was a small noise from within, and small pieces of the shell began to fall away.
Within the broken shards a shape was moving; the top half of the egg fully fell away, and brilliant turquoise eyes stared out at the two awaiting humans. Weak, untrained wings flared experimentally; deep rustic red feathers ruffled. A small squack issued from the creature's beak, and the gryffin lashed its tail outward, sweeping aside some of the mess it had made on Aster's desk. Blinking once in the dim light, its small eyes looked curiously over the Head Guardian before turning to meet Kindauro's.

It seemed that the drop fall in slow motion from vial to egg, as it did Kindauro leaned inward and inhaled then after awhile exhaled quickly as if he had finally remembered he had to, to keep his excitement under some measure of control he was breathing slow and shallow it was finally going to happen his egg was about to hatch.
After what seemed several minutes (though only one) Kindauro afraid to speak nervously looked back and forth between the egg and the Head Guardian as if to say "nothing is happening is that normal is something wrong."
At the first snapping noise kindauro jumped in his seat, as the popping noises started to grow in number Kindauro got wide eyed his mouth dropping open as the pieces of shell began to drop.
Inhaling a second time and leaning back-wards as the hatch ling flared its wings, and smiling nearly to laughter at the griffin's squawk and sweeping tail.
Then when the little griffin's eyes met Kindauro's all he could say was "Oh" as if a connection was realized talking to his new friend added "Your beautiful." then looking at the Head Guardian said "Shes beautiful, "
Reaching out his hand Kindauro ever so gently stroked the hatching from the top or her head to the base of her tail,as his hand passed over her wings he could feel that they were strong and the feathers were more like an adult bird's feathers rather than a newly hatched chick's

Lady Aster nodded.
"She's going to need a name," she pointed out, reaching for her quill to jot down her findings. It was a beautiful, elegant creature- Gryffins. Creatures of pride and courage; there was a certain regal grace to the creature, even though it had just been hatched.

"Yes, what shall I call you." Kindauro looked at the young gryffin before him and thought "hhmmmmmmm" after looking at the gryffin and stroking it some more he said aloud but talking to the gryffin "regal, nobility, royalty."
He suddenly got a look on his face that said that he had the perfect name. he turned and directed himself to the Head Guardian "There is a wild orchid that grows high in the mt.s of my homeland, the leaves are fine and feather like and veined and edged the same color as she is, and it has flowers that are the same color as her eyes that flower is called Malanthi the name means Queen of the Mountain."
Then turning back to the gryffin with a smile, "I will name you after it, I will call you Malanthia." (ma lan thee ah)
